PUWER requires that equipment provided for use at work is:
• suitable for the intended use
• safe for use, maintained in a safe condition and inspected to ensure it is correctly installed and does not subsequently deteriorate
• used only by people who have received adequate information, instruction and training
• accompanied by suitable health and safety measures, such as protective devices and controls. These will normally include emergency stop devices, adequate means of isolation from sources of energy, clearly visible markings and warning devices
• used in accordance with specific requirements, for mobile work equipment and power presses
Health & Safety/PUWER Compliance
Providing a safe and secure workplace is a high priority for an increasing number of our customers.
The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) provides an excellent framework against which to assess a factory's or workshop's ability to deliver a safe working environment for their staff.
PUWER, places duties on people and companies who own, operate or have control over work equipment. PUWER also places responsibilities on businesses and organisations whose employees use work equipment, whether owned by them or not.
Musselbrook Machine Maintenance has extensive experience working with its customers to assess current installations against the PUWER standard and recommending and implementing changes that ensure both compliance and a safe working environment. Good examples of our work in this area include Central St Martins Art College where we performed a PUWER assessment on over 150 machines, prepared a report and then carried out all remedial actions required to bring the machines up to standard. In addition we have worked with South Kent College where we performed a safety assessment and as a result of the findings have rectified problems found with eight machines.
If you feel that you may have some specific Health and Safety concerns or are looking to make your operation PUWER compliant, please contact us by clicking on the Contact tab at the top of this page or ringing our main office on the number shown at the top of this web page
